Caption length checker

One caption, 9 limits and four different ways of counting. Paste it once and see where it fits, where it does not and by how much — counted the way each network counts, which is how Ravenpost checks a post before it goes out.

Runs in your browser — nothing you type or drop is uploaded.

Fits all 9 networks.

    Characters, as typed

  • Bluesky131 / 300

Graphemes: an emoji or a flag counts once

The description; the title is a separate 100

The pin description; the title is a separate 100

Why one caption has several lengths

X weights what it counts. Every link is 23 however long it is, and emoji and many symbols are 2.

Bluesky counts what you see. An emoji, a flag or a family of emoji is one character, where most counters say four or more.

Telegram counts the text, not the formatting. Markdown such as **bold** spends nothing once it becomes bold.

Everyone else counts characters as typed — but YouTube’s and Pinterest’s limits are for the description, with a separate title, and Instagram shows only about 125 characters before “… more”.

In Ravenpost each network can take its own caption, so the short X post and the long LinkedIn one go out from the same place.

Questions

What is the Instagram caption limit?

2,200 characters, and only about the first 125 show before “… more” — so the line that makes someone tap belongs at the start.

What is the TikTok caption limit?

2,200 characters for a post’s caption.

What is the LinkedIn post limit?

3,000 characters.

What is the limit on X, Threads and Bluesky?

X: 280, or 25,000 with X Premium, with every link counted as 23 and emoji as 2. Threads: 500. Bluesky: 300, counted in graphemes, so an emoji or a flag counts once.

Why does the same caption have different lengths?

Because the networks count differently. X weights links and emoji, Bluesky counts what you see, Telegram counts the text left once its markdown becomes formatting, and the rest count characters as typed.

Is my caption sent anywhere?

No. It is counted in your browser, and nothing you type leaves the page.

Then post it everywhere

Ravenpost checks every post against these same rules before it goes out, and publishes it to 9 networks with a caption written for each. One connected account and ten posts a month, free. No card.
