# Schedule social posts from Codex

Codex ships the change; the post about it is the step that waits for later. Add Ravenpost as an MCP server and Codex can write that post from the work it just did and schedule it on Instagram, TikTok, X, Telegram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube and Pinterest, without leaving the terminal.

## One command, and Codex signs itself in

Codex notices that Ravenpost's server signs in with OAuth the moment you add it, opens the sign-in in your browser and keeps the credential itself — on a Mac, in the keychain — so there is no API key to paste. It gets the same tools Claude does, minus the one meant only for a post card's Publish button, so a post meant to go out now waits until you confirm it in Ravenpost.

## One command

1. ### Connect your accounts once

    Sign in to Ravenpost in a browser and connect the accounts you publish to. Free plan, no card.

2.  ### Add the server

    Codex sees that the server signs in with OAuth and opens the sign-in straight away. Approve it in the browser and the command ends with "Successfully logged in"; the list then shows the server with OAuth as its auth.

    Add the server, then check

    ```
    codex mcp add ravenpost --url https://api.ravenpo.st/mcp
    codex mcp list
    ```

3. ### Or use a token, for CI

    A job with no browser cannot sign in. Mint a personal access token on the MCP page of the dashboard, keep it in an environment variable — a CI secret — and name that variable when you add the server; Codex sends it as a bearer header.

    With a token

    ```
    export RAVENPOST_TOKEN=rvp_your_token_here
    codex mcp add ravenpost --url https://api.ravenpo.st/mcp \
      --bearer-token-env-var RAVENPOST_TOKEN
    ```

4. ### Ask it to post

    From the repository you just changed, say what shipped and where it should go. Codex drafts, previews and schedules it without leaving the terminal.

## What to ask Codex

Written the way somebody would actually type them, with what each one ends up doing.

- “Read the diff on this branch and draft an X post and a LinkedIn post about what changed. Show me both before you create anything.”

    Writes from the repository it already has open, then renders each destination with the preview tool, which writes nothing — so what you approve is the post itself, warnings included.

- “Schedule both for 9am tomorrow in my workspace timezone.”

    Two posts, one per network since each has its own caption, each with its own publish status. A schedule more than 15 minutes ahead goes straight onto the calendar.

- “Publish the LinkedIn one right now.”

    The post is saved and waits. The result says NOT PUBLISHED YET and carries a link to the post in Ravenpost, where you press Publish; Codex is never handed the tool behind that button.

- “Put the next three release notes in the posting queue instead of picking times.”

    Takes the next free slots in the workspace’s weekly schedule, so a batch spreads itself out.

- “Which of last month’s posts failed, and why?”

    Reads back each destination’s own error text, so a rejected PNG or an expired token is a thing you can fix rather than a red dot.

## What it still cannot do

The things you would otherwise find out on day two.

- Posting now waits for you. A post meant to go out now, or within 15 minutes, is saved and held until you confirm it in Ravenpost — Codex is not given the tool behind the post card’s Publish button.
- It is still a scheduler: no inbox, no replies, no image generation. What Codex adds is that the caption can be written from something it can read — a diff, a changelog, a test run.
- A token acts as the person who minted it. In CI, mint one in a workspace with only the accounts that job should reach, and revoke it from the dashboard the day the job stops needing it.
- Deleting a published post from the assistant removes Ravenpost’s copy only — the post stays live on the network, and on Instagram, Threads, TikTok and YouTube Ravenpost cannot take one down at all.

## Everywhere it can publish

One post, any combination of 9 networks, each with its own preview and its own publish status.

## Codex questions

How do I add it to Codex?

One line: \`codex mcp add ravenpost --url https://api.ravenpo.st/mcp\`. Codex starts the OAuth sign-in by itself; approve it in the browser. \`codex mcp login ravenpost\` signs in again if you ever need to.

Can I use it in CI?

Yes, with a personal access token instead of the sign-in: keep it in an environment variable and add the server with \`--bearer-token-env-var\` naming that variable. Codex sends it as a bearer header.

Is this different from the ChatGPT plugin?

Same server, same tools, same account — a post scheduled from Codex lands on the same calendar as one scheduled from ChatGPT. The plugin is how ChatGPT installs it; Codex takes the server directly.

Where does Codex keep the sign-in?

Codex keeps the OAuth credential itself — on a Mac, in the system keychain — and lists the server in ~/.codex/config.toml. End the connection at any time under Connected AI apps on your Ravenpost account page.

What does it cost?

Nothing to start. The MCP server is on every plan, the free one included — one connected account and ten posts a month.
